This page contains the most current draft of the compliance areas identified by the Technology Accessibility Review Committee (TARC). This draft is subject to minor changes as the policy nears its final form.

The Technology Accessibility Review Committee (TARC) has identified several areas of compliance that should be addressed in the first year after the IT Accessibility Policy is implemented. The identified areas are listed below, followed by a general outline of the process for each area. Important: These areas should be considered as a general approach and not an exhaustive list or strict schedule of activity.

Primary First Year Areas

  1. Area 1: Websites that are primarily informational—information about applying and registering, information for prospective students, information for non-University people

    1. Potential candidates: Illinois.edu, Graduate College, Admissions, DRES, Financial Aid, Career Services, etc.
    2. 30–50 sites
    3. 2–4 month turnaround
  2. Area 2: Web applications—HR processes such as applying, training, complaint filing systems, and other online HR processes, student application, registration, internship applications, and career planning, University process applications such procurement and fund raising
    1. Potential candidates: AITS services, Digication, Financial support for students
    2. 10–15 services
    3. 3–6 month turnaround
  3. Area 3: Product selection and procurement—getting accessibility into the selection and procurement activities of departments, units, and individuals

Process

AREA 1 & 2

  1. Compile a list of sites to be reviewed from the first two areas
  2. Create metrics of testable components for judging each site.
  3. Unit Accessibility Liaisons will review/evaluate their unit websites.
  4. Share findings with each site owner, developers, stakeholders
  5. 9-month follow-up review

AREA 3

  1. Interview purchasing offices and officers across campus to understand their procedures
  2. Examine current contract language for accessibility statements
  3. Review process for vetting products and verifying compliance with accessibility standards.
